Activating Your Promise Of Protection
As
military wives, it is our calling to pray over our husbands. And if you are anything like me, you find yourself doing so even more during a deployment. For me, it is the increased time spent alone that gives me more desire to press into the Word of God and be in prayer more often. I can honestly say that because I have had a very powerful revelation of our promise of protection found in Psalm 91, I am able to go through my day in peace, knowing that my husband is protected.
“HE WHO dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand].” ~Psalm 91:1 (Amplified)
I clearly remember the first time I read this scripture shortly after I married my husband. Sure, I had read it plenty of times before I was married, but it took a different shape after I said, “I do.” At the time, my husband was not in the Army, but something resonated so strong within me to study and speak this verse into existence in our lives. Little did I know that a little over a year after we were married 9/11 would take place, and my husband would join the United States Army. While I may not have known this, God did.
It is important you understand that God is very clear that we need to abide in Him every day of our life. To abide means to “dwell in.” One of the most powerful things that we can understand about this excerpt of scripture is the simple fact that IF we choose to dwell in the secret place daily, we have then activated (by faith) our promise of protection. How can we do this?
By living out these things on a daily basis:
- daily reading the Word
- meditating on the Word
- living a lifestyle of continuous prayer and worship
Once we begin to implement (or strengthen) this area of our lives, it then opens us up to the many wonderful promises of protection contained within Psalm 91. These are two of my favorite verses nestled within this powerful Psalm:
“A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.Only a spectator shall you be [yourself inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High] as you witness the reward of the wicked.“ ~Psalm 91:7-8 (Amplified)
I cannot testify enough about all of the times that God has divinely protected my family and I from death. Not just physical death, but more importantly, spiritual death. And I know why. He clearly tells us in the verses above that if we will do what He lays out for us in verse 1, then we are inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High! It promises us that we will only be a “spectator” as we “witness the reward of the wicked.” This gives me such great peace and joy that it makes me want to go atop every roof in the world and shout, “Hallelujah!” I do not rejoice in seeing others suffer, but I do rejoice in our faithful God honoring His Word and promises to His children. I am thankful that because of Him, my family is able to enjoy abundant life upon this earth. And the beautiful thing is, just like salvation, God gives this gift of protection to all who will walk in His ways and receive it by faith.
If it weren’t for the Bible and God’s tangible written promises of protection, I would be a mess right now. We are on the downward end of our 5th year-long deployment since 2004, and I am at peace. I rest in knowing that so long as my husband and I continue on in this lifestyle of abiding in Him, that nothing outside of God’s perfect will for my family can take place in our lives while upon this earth.
I encourage all of you who are struggling with fear and believing God’s promises of protection to begin to read Psalm 91 daily. As you read, couple that with prayer and meditation about what God is showing you through this powerful chapter of His Word. If your spouse is a believer, do this together in agreement and watch what God will do for your family in the way of both physical and spiritual protection. If your spouse is not yet a believer, continue to trust and obey, God will never let you down.
For a more in depth look at the powerful promises of protection that are contained in Psalm 91, I would highly recommend going to download Gloria Copeland’s powerful mini-book on this subject.
