Stellarae, sometimes uneasiness can be the Holy Spirit speaking to us about our decisions telling us to change our minds. Ultimately, you are the parent and have the authority to make a decision on what you think is best for your child. Be prayerful! Jeremiah 33:3 (NIV) 3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know." Go with your gut instinct!-Christy

hello, I am encouraged by your letter, and yet it causes me to be torn. I have been homeschooling for three years since we PCSed late in the school year and decided since we didn't want to have to move our daughter in the middle of the year that homeschooling was the best option. (We are likely to PCS again sometime in the next two years again) We continued based on success and desire for biblical education to be the priority in the home. Now she's going into fourth grade and I'm beginning to think it may be a good time to integrate her into school so that we is able to handle the real world and make more friends. (she has had some good exposure in extracurricular activities outside of school) She has a solid foundation and good study habits. And we agreed that if she goes to school that we will supplement with bible curriculum so that she still has it everyday, since the other subjects (unlike our homeschool) will not be from a biblical viewpoint.
Now however I am torn, having major uncertainty on this decision. I'm asking for your opinion. On one hand I really want her to be able to hack it in the real world because it is tough and I know from experience it can be brutal if you aren't equipped, and I believe she can be salt in the earth because of her awesome faith and compassion for others. On the other had she doesn't want to go, and I'm unsure if I need to consider her feelings on this matter. I take the Kevin Leman approach and believe in reality discipline and that I do need to see the world through her eyes in order to have strong communication and trust. But I also want to guide her and not over protect. Please give me your opinion. Sincerely Stellarae

Thank you for reading, Latonya. I am so glad that your family views homeschooling as a lifestyle! It is such a blessing, isn't it?

Thank you! You so gracefully and kindly put into words what I struggle to defend almost everyday, to others or myself. It is so simple. God Bless!

Carlie,
Your reasons reflect my own. It was just recently that I realized it was more of a lifestyle and less of a school choice. Thank you for sharing.

I love that your points did not focus in any fashion on points that people would consider to be lazy reason. you clearly gave 10 reason that focus on the well being of the child. I believe this list and many others like this should be posted as a for front for those who question the choice to home school, especially for the military spouses (male or female). Thank you!
