This is a great list. Thanks for sharing it. Personally this is my favorite verse when I need to find strength.

1 Cor. 12:10 That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

I am so grateful to God for leading me to this site. My husband left this weekend, and this is our first deployment. We were married 6 months ago, and he is halfway across the world now for 6 months. I don't think I have ever felt a pain like this before. It was so inspiring to read this article. I especially liked the phrase "If there were no sowing in tears there would be no reaping in joy." I can already feel the Lord working in my life, as I feel stronger today, and renewed. I still cry when I see his toothbrush gone, and his cowboy boots still by the door just waiting for him to come home and wear them again. I will sow in my tears, and reap in the joy of his homecoming.

Thank you for the inspiration on Day 2 of this deployment. I feel like I can do anything with Christ by my side.

As a veteran and pastor of a church just outside the front gate of one of our nation's largest military installations, I spend a lot of time working with veterans suffering from PTSD. It is sad that the VA approach is to turn vets into victims but that is what is happening. There needs to be more dialogue on this issue as Christ remains the answer and our veterans need to know that they "can do all things through Christ." In addition to the regular PTSD caused by combat trauma I find another issue associated with PTSD is the social disconnect between military and modern American civilian life. Since there is so little written about this in Christian literature -- especially Christian fiction with its vanilla flavored Eagle Scout approach to the military -- I wrote a short novelette to help people see inside the heart of the combat veteran. It's called "No Greater Love: An Afghan Memoir" and is available as an e-book on Barnes and Noble and Smashwords.com for 99 cents. I hope it will bless and help Christians come to grips with PTSD (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/no-greater-love-tim-moynihan/1113114977?ean=2940015542363)
God bless and save our military servicemembers and veterans!

Hi Pam,

I read your post and I am very much interested in being a part of such wonderful organization. I sent my request to be an active member last week, but I have not heard anything yet. Do you know who is a good contact point. I am the wife of a retired Army soldier and also a counselor who is working on my certification and licensure requirements. My beliefs and principles are ingrained in the Almighty Lord Jesus Christ and it is my obligation to help others who may be experiencing issues. Also, I have been attempting to use the chat link and I am not finding any activity. Please provide any information you may have.

Thanks so much for your time,
Darlene Lang-Koonce

Hello I am looking at wanting to do a bible support group for military wives. I am the mother of a Fallen Soldier here in Alaska and feel God directing me in this direction.

I'm concerned for the military families who have a spouse that has returned from overseas and is now suffering with PTSD.

Can you direct me to any studies that would allow wives to speak about this?

Thank You

I remember getting orders to England. Excited at first, but soon grew homesick. I was happy to come back to the states and get settled stateside.

This is so true. I love that you included: Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
So much of our society hides behind foundation (makeup). What about values? God Looks at the Heart!

After 8 deployments in 7 years, one thing I've learned is that to get through it is to be able to manage my patience. And, as you found, this is not always easily done. But you're absolutely right when you said that patience comes from God. While it's not always easy to remember, it's absolutely true and has carried me through some very difficult moments. Thank you for this post!
